RALEIGH, NC (January 26, 2023) – The Board of Directors of the Public School Forum of North Carolina has selected LaTanya Pattillo to serve as the chair-elect. Pattillo’s chair-elect role will begin immediately, and she will assume the role as board chair for a two-year term which will officially begin July 1, 2023. In July, she will succeed Alfred Mays, Chief Diversity Officer and Strategist at the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, who assumed the role of Chair in 2021.
“We are thrilled to have LaTanya Pattillo as our chair-elect,” said Dr. Mary Ann Wolf, Executive Director and President of the Public School Forum of NC. “LaTanya Pattillo’s experience and deep understanding of our schools and students will provide tremendous leadership for the Public School Forum of NC. Her commitment to ensuring every child in NC and beyond has access to a high quality and equitable education is evident throughout her work.”
Pattillo is a lifelong educator with deep experience in the classroom, in leadership roles, and in policy. She currently serves as director of policy and advocacy at NWEA. From 2017–2021, she served as teacher advisor to North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper. She also has over 10 years of classroom experience as an educator and was a 2013–2014 Kenan Fellow with North Carolina State University as well as the 2015–2016 Columbus County Schools Teacher of the Year. Additionally, she is a 2020-2022 William C. Friday Fellow for Human Relations.
“LaTanya Pattillo has served as a strong public education champion and advocate within and across the North Carolina landscape to include serving on the Public School Forum’s Advisory Board before becoming a member of the Board of Directors,” said Alfred Mays, Chair of the Public School Forum of NC Board of Directors. “She has contributed to the establishment of many key initiatives in support of equity, access, and opportunity. We look forward to her Board leadership.”
